FSM: Swiss Research Foundation for Electricity and Mobile Communication
The Swiss Research Foundation for Electricity and Mobile Communication (FSM) is a non-profit foundation with the purpose of promoting scientific research on the opportunities and risks of technologies that generate or use electromagnetic fields (EMF). This includes all radio and power technologies. Further objectives of the FSM are the publication of research results in scientific organs and the communication of research facts and expertise on the subject of EMF in society.
Our offer includes communication and research services. Communication services include providing information, imparting scientific knowledge, organizing events and preparing information material. Research services include research consulting and support, as well as the coordination and implementation of research projects.
The FSM has been supporting research for 20 years. In total, we have to date invested more than CHF 5 million in research funding, thus making an important contribution to the acquisition of knowledge as well as to the promotion of young academics. So far, 50 studies dealing with basic research, social science issues or technical aspects of radio and power technology in connection with EMF (electromagnetic fields) have been supported.
In 2021, the FSM will award a total amount of CHF 250'000 for two innovative research projects on questions related to 5G. The focus is on the following two, non-exclusive, thematic priorities:
- Basic research on biological effects (in vivo, in vitro, human studies).
- Social science studies on risk perception and acceptance of 5G.

If you are interested in technical, biological and / or health-related questions about electromagnetic fields (EMF), you can find out more on our knowledge pages. The FSM knowledge pages are aimed at the lay public interested in the topic.
